Cost of living and accommodation
Cost of living and meals
Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences does not charge any tuition fees. However, students are expected to cover their living expenses (accommodation, meals, leisure time and social activities). Students who have a student card are entitled to discounts at the Finnish National Railways (VR), bus transportation companies (Matkahuolto) as well as at some restaurants, department stores and smaller shops.
Each school has a restaurant nearby where lunch is served to students at subsidized student prices.
Seinäjoki has an abundance of student housing around the city. The Marttilan Kortteeri company, owned by the City of Seinäjoki, offers housing services to students in Seinäjoki as well as assists international students with their housing arrangements. The housing services include a utility room, saunas and other places to gather.
Each apartment has a broadband Internet connection. Students must apply for accommodation with an online application form, which can be found on the website of Marttilan Kortteeri. Local real estate agents also offer flats to let.
In Ilmajoki, students can live in the dormitory in the vicinity of the school or in the Palonkortteeri student dormitory in the centre of the municipality. The dormitories in the immediate vicinity of the school have three double-occupancy rooms, a common lounge and shared shower and toilets. The students have access to the Sodexo student restaurant, a self-service laundry, a gym, a sports hall, and saunas. For more information, visit www.seamk.fi(in Finnish)
Palonkortteeri has rooms for students and youth. Applications for dormitory-type rooms, single-occupancy rooms and family apartments are submitted using a form which can be obtained at www.ilmajoki.fi(in Finnish) or more www.ilmajoki.fi/en
